Promoting Advice & Guidance for GPs, improving access to consultant advice

Video & Telephone appointments for New Rheumatology Referrals

We have started offering new routine rheumatology referrals either telephone or video appointments. Consultants were somewhat nervous about video and telephone appts for new patients who they have obviously never seen before.  Building rapport, interpreting subtle body language, language barriers and the patient feeling they have been properly assessed were all concerns but the major concern has been the lack of being able to undertake a physical examination. Telephone and video appointments for follow-up patients

All of our appointments for established rheumatology patients have moved to telephone appointments.
