Proposed AP MSK Physio led ED returns clinic / Ortho

by MSK APP ED | May 23, 2020 | in Urgent and Emergency Care

Improved patient journey. Minimised/ reduced the need to attend ortho clinics, enhanced clinical decision making for MIU. Ortho Consultants worked in MIU alongside ENP‘S and MSK Physio Practitioners. Senior decision making at the time of patient presentation reduced referrals to virtual fracture clinic, freeing up Consultant time and reducing often unnecessary clinic attendance for patients. Collaborative working  has  showcased the high level of clinical skills and expertise of the ENP’s and Physio Practitioners and  all parties keen to develop Physio Practitioner led ED return clinics to reduce ortho virtual fracture clinic referrals, commence physio intervention early and improve  the patient  journey.

What is needed to sustain the change?

Financial requirement to fund ED Physio Practitioner post permanently to set up Physio Practitioner led ED clinics to reduce non-fracture patients referral to Virtual Fracture clinic. Eg Shoulders and knees.. review and offer brief intervention with discharge, or refer to MSK physio or appoint to Ortho if still clinically indicated.

Hi - We are just about to have our 1st clinics set up on PAS to start to run a pilot of this proposal. We are looking at a one stop Ortho/MSK clinic with full integration with T+O/Physio/Radiology etc. Hope you are getting somewhere with getting your project off the ground
