Orthopaedic department managed Emergency service in Fracture clinic.

Following the influx of COVID patients and at the verge of ED services being overwhelmed by CV19 patients, the Orthopaedic team led by Clinical lead organised the workforce into tiers to deliver efficient Consultant led ED services from the fracture clinic. Trauma theatre team to operate on essential patients, Ward rounds team to review Orthopaedic patients and help the medical teams with Consultant cover when needed.

Lead surgeon of the day coordinated the smooth flow of all aspects of the service.

Teaching the registrars and FYs had been instituted and a daily Zoom teaching sessions are on.

The CV19 rota is still on and slow limping back to resume elective work is on.

Backlog of elective referrals are planned to be reviewed via video consults in the next few days.

What is needed to sustain the change?
