Telephone clinics

We have started to do out patients clinics via telephone consultation. This has unveiled several previous inefficiencies in the system which can be improved by adopting a telephone triage system of all appointments. This includes avoiding double appointments eg between neonates and paeds, appointments too close to each other can be avoided by standardising the ages at review. Some appointments can be done through a combination of telephone consultation and advice to GP thus avoiding travel to hospital. At least 25-50% of our appointments can be managed virtually or were unnecessary
